ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I have always been drawn to both nature and mysterious things. It all started at some point in my late adolescence when I discovered a world of lucid dreams. An overwhelming feeling of becoming awake within a dream scenario feels like a transcendental experience to me, an experience that must be conveyed in an artwork. Later, I discovered oneironautics, a practice in which one may, for instance, investigate alternative dimensions and travel within the dreamspace.

I paint on bamboo paper with watercolours, gouache, and hand-crafted inks made of biodegradable materials. I also make miniature sculptures and ambient music. I work in a semi-realistic style, illustrating my experiences through watercolour that helps to convey the idea freely. I support the fluency of the main medium with textures and stones that complement each other like different elements, and I like to incorporate different textures in my works that make paintings more tangible. It reminds me of a gateway from one dimension to another, from spiritual to mundane, from ethereal to tangible, anchored as a texture on a painting.

I am keen to depict my recurring visions from lucid dreams that I consider to be the archetypal part of the human mind. In my works, I convey the idea of mythological creatures, specific surroundings, and archetypes. I believe that visionary art can be a beacon that sheds light on many things.

As an artist, I am inspired by visionary art that was formed from fantastic realism in Vienna and conceptual artists Alan Lee and John Howe.
